"The best wines tell stories about place—my job is to find the bottles that tell them best."

Loire Valley
JR Thomason was a Wine Specialist and buyer at Flatiron, where he built one of the city's most thoughtful selections of Beaujolais, Bordeaux, and Loire Valley wines. His deep knowledge of these regions allowed Flatiron to represent multiple examples of each of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, the Crus Communaux of Muscadet, and single-site Sancerres—wines he championed long before they became trendy.
In Bordeaux, JR focused on discovering under-the-radar producers like Château Haut-Ségottes, artisanal estates where organic farming, long fermentations, and patient aging in old wood create wines that remind drinkers why the region became the benchmark for fine wine. His writing for Flatiron brought these stories to life, connecting the dots between terroir, winemaking tradition, and what ends up in the glass.
JR has since built a career as a wine writer, contributing regularly to The New Wine Review and The New York Sun. His approach—whether on the shop floor or on the page—reflects a belief that wine is most rewarding when it reveals something about where it comes from.
