Julia's path through wine began in 2008, when a casual visit to a small Niagara Escarpment winery turned into a job offer she couldn't refuse. What followed was a winding journey across continents and roles: wine and beer writer, vineyard hand in Southern Wisconsin, retail buyer in Chicago, harvest intern in Stellenbosch, and communications and education manager for Willamette Valley Wine. She now serves as Flatiron's Events Manager and buyer for New World wines.
A passionate educator with more than a decade of teaching experience, Julia holds a WSET Diploma in Wine & Spirits and an Italian Wine Professional certification, and is a certified WSET instructor. She has led classes, seminars, private events, and tutoring sessions across all levels of wine knowledge, always with an eye toward making the subject accessible and alive.
What draws Julia to wine is its ability to weave together unexpected threads—geography and microbiology, language and politics, memory and agriculture. She believes wine can facilitate important conversations about sustainability, labor, and the human experience, and she has never lost the sense of wonder that brought her into the industry in the first place.
