Jeff Patten is a co-founder of Flatiron Wines & Spirits and continues to be a partner in both the New York City and San Francisco shops. Before founding Flatiron Wines, he owned and managed specialty wine shops in Brooklyn, New York. One of those stores was Uva Wines, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which at the time was well known for its focus on natural wines and wines of terroir.
Jeff has been passionate about wine for more than 30 years. He’s traveled to over 20 wine regions, spending countless hours tasting and learning from growers, importers, and fellow wine lovers along the way.
At home, Jeff drinks wines the same way that he writes about it. He is passionate about “wine adventuring” and views every bottle of wine as an exploration. He therefore drinks a diverse range of wines at home; perhaps a familiar Barbaresco one night, an Oregon Chardonnay the next, and a sparkler from Croatia later in the week.
Although he considers himself a generalist, Jeff’s experience is deepest in the wines of Piedmont, the Northern Rhone and Burgundy. He hopes to add to that list as he continues to explore the world of wine every week of his life!
