We are such fans of this domaine. It is the one and only great producer from St. Amour that we consistently have on our shelves. 

Domaine des Billards are true specialists, their entire five hectares lie within  the  St. Amour AOC. 

You may already know, based on our Guide to the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, but Saint Amour is a small but very diverse cru. The soil is made up of blue volcanic schist, granite, pink granite, clay, alluvial fans, and even some sandstone. Billards' plot, which is farmed naturally and ploughed to promote biodiversity, is mid-slope and primarily sandstone, pebbles, and some granite. 

As you would expect, Billards makes wine in true, lovable, Beaujolais-style, meaning semi-carbonic vinification lasts about two weeks before the wines are aged in cement tanks.

Even their basic St. Amour is a joy and shows you all of that St. Amour lovin’ without requiring you to wait.

The Barbet family has been making spectacular Beaujolais for centuries, and their style is decidedly traditional. This wine is so pretty, so vividly cherry-red, and so darn delicious now that you might think this wine can't age. But you'd be wrong! It can last a decade no problem. Grab a few for the cellar if you've got space.
